Note Bene: It has been thought that the Lauser portion of the family came from Austria. To date (2/24/2007) I have yet to find any Austrian relationships. From Aunt Emma I have a copy of a manuscript "The Name and Family of Ort(h)" by ROOTS RESEARCH BUREAU, LTD. 39 West 32 Street, Suite 704, New York, NY 10001. The Ort(h) family is supposed to have come from Austria according to this document. Wow! Here's the Austrian connection, right? Well, maybe not. Below is a warning I ran into on the internet.
"Fraudulent family histories continue to flourish! Beware of ads that say “I have spent thousands of dollars and months of work to research this limited edition about your rare name. ... Also stay away from ... Roots Research Bureau; ... When you receive ads from these or others you may be suspicious of, send them to the National Genealogical Society, 4527 17th St. N., Arlington, VA 22204-2399. —Taken from The Muskingum, Muskingum County Ohio Genealogical Society Newsletter. "
This is not to say that Roots Research Bureau is fraudulent, but the old adage needs to be heeded -- "Caveat Emptor".
